This shawl is knit from end to end. Shaping occurs by increasing stitches along one side in the first section, maintaining stitch count in the center, then decreasing stitches in the third section. It may be blocked straight (as knit) or crescent shaped.

All stitch patterns are traditional Shetland lace patterns. It is worth mentioning that the background stitch does NOT have a resting row. It is only a 6 stitch x 4 row pattern repeat, with one stitch sequence occurring on both right side rows and a second sequence occurring on both wrong side rows. If you are familiar with lace knitting, this should be a fairly easy sequence for you to work with. If you are not familiar with lace knitting, it is recommended that you begin with something simpler that utilizes resting rows.

The range of yardage required allows for a different number of repeats in the center of the shawl. It is possible to work with slightly less than the minimum stated by eliminating the center section entirely. In this case, it is highly recommended that you use a small scale, such as a kitchen scale, to know when you are approaching the center of your yardage so that you do not run short!

Finished dimensions will vary, based on the yardage that you use and the shape that you choose to block. Approximate dimensions are 12-13” width at the center x 62-66” long.
