The Brett Hat was born out of inspiration from the classic childrens book author Jan Brett. My daughters and I love reading ALL of her books and admiring the beautiful artwork. Naturally when we read her books, I find myself admiring the clothing that each of the characters wear and wanting to knit garments accordingly. The Brett hat is knit using the simple Scandinavian pattern to reflect some of the detail and design that Jan Brett has used in her illustrations.
This hat is knit from the ribbing up to the crown using worsted weight yarn. The ribbing is knit using the contrast color and knit extra long so that it can be folded up. The motif is worked using charts, and a simple pompom seals the deal at the top of the crown. The Brett hat is a great way to use up extra yarn and knits up fast making it very enjoyable for any knitter.
