What is HIV?

HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus, is a virus that attacks the body’s own immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS, or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. There is currently no CURE for HIV. Once it is contracted, the person will have the virus for the remainder of their life. Even with no cure available, individuals who have HIV can live long and healthy lives. Proper treatment is key to living with HIV.
