This shawl design was inspired by my little sister Alex. She is the Bride by the Sea, or shall be very soon! As I designed this shawl, I pictured what she will look like in her gorgeous wedding gown walking alongside the ocean towards her groom. Looking at it you can imagine the waves rolling in and breaking on the beach. Along with gentle bits of sea spray twinkling above them. Another special detail is the colors used in the shawl represent the colors of the ocean as well as the colors chosen for Alex’s wedding. This design is very near and dear to my heart and is intended to be a memory piece for her. Every time she wears it, it can take her back to all of those precious little moments from her day.

Designer Notes:

  1. This is a crescent-shaped shawl knit top-down starting with a garter tab.
  2. For a stretchy top and edge, this pattern is written to go up 3 needle sizes for the cast-on and bind-off.
  3. This design may be knit smaller or larger if desired; in that case more or less yarn may be required.
  4. Three colorways were used to knit this pattern and are identified as Colors A (Steely-Eyed), Color B (Natural), and Color C (Sweet Dreams).
  5. Instructions have been written out as well as charted for the knitter’s preference.
  6. The stitch count will increase by 4 sts in every RS row and by 2 sts in every WS row.
