About
The Bridie Sweater—a worsted-weight, yoked sweater—is named for a woman who was so influential in my life, my Aunt Bridie.

In this last year, there has been so much loss—including Bridie. So many people that meant a lot to me are now gone and so I try to do what I can to remember them. To tell stories about them so that I can keep their memory alive. One way that I’m doing that today is by naming this sweater design the Bridie Sweater. I hope making it and wearing it will make you feel as warm, cozy and nurtured as my Aunt Bridie made me feel.

Now let me tell you a little about her. She was my mom‘s oldest sister and I grew up about a mile down the road from her. She was a homebody, an incredible cook, and she adored kids. She had four girls of her own!

Her home was always warm, cozy and filled with the wonderful scent of whatever food that she was cooking that day. She loved to feed people. It was one of the ways she showed you that she loved you. I feel like her influence molded the inviting, nurturing home that I have now. As well as my love of feeding the people I love.

She had such a big impact on me growing up and she always went above and beyond to make sure I felt special and heard.

On top of our shared love of cooking, she and I also shared a love of reading. As a teenager, I would often sneak books to her and she would sigh loudly and say ‘ Oh Erin, I’m not going to get anything done tomorrow because I’m just going to read this book’. It always made me smile. I loved that I could share that with her. And spoil her a little bit, like she spoiled me.

I always remember her kitchen table as somewhere to sit with a nice cup of tea, something sweet and have a good chat. I miss her cozy kitchen, but will always remember the way it made me feel. She was a great mom, a wonderful aunt and is sorely missed.

This sweater—with both written and charted directions-—has some easy lace in the yoke and a relaxing stockinette body and sleeves. Worked seamlessly from the top down, it is perfect for trying on as you go. Written in 9 sizes it is meant to be relaxing to create and easy to wear.

Needles:
US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 5 (3.75 mm), 24” (60 cm) and 40” (100 cm) circular needle or needles needed to get gauge

Yardage Needed:
819 (976, 1129, 1309) (1481, 1705, 1933) (2187, 2409) yds; 749 (893, 1033, 1197) (1355, 1560, 1768) (2000, 2203) m.

Suggested Yarns: Berroco, Lanas, Worsted, 100% Wool; 219 yds (200 m)/100 g or any worsted weight yarn of your choosing

Sample uses: Sandalwood, approx. 976 yds (893 m)

Gauge: 20 stitches/27 rounds = 4” (10 cm) square in Stockinette using US 5 (3.75 mm) needles or whatever size needle give you gauge

Other Notions: Stitch markers, darning needle, waste yarn to hold stitches

Knit, purl, increasing (m1r, yo), decreasing (k2tog, ssk), working from charts (written directions available), lace, German short rows, cast on & bind off
