After the Socks nr 1 come of course the Socks nr 2! Just like my Elín socks were a modern adaptation of the Socks nr 1 in the 1889 edition of Kvennafræðarinn (The Women’s Instructor) by Elín Briem, the Briem socks are inspired by the second pattern in that same edition. They are knitted from the cuff down with a roundstar toe and a reinforced band heel with a gousset. Little details make those, otherwise rather common, socks special, with a particularly comfortable and sturdy heel.
My Briem mid-socks are knitted at a much bigger gauge but I retained all the significant details. They are one of my favourites to wear from the whole collection!
To spice them up, I embroidered a flowerpot motif in old Icelandic cross stitch, as seen in the traditional mittens from the fjord Skagafjörður in the north of Iceland.
