Brier is a chunky, casual beanie perfect for a relaxing weekend. Knit in a bulky, soft cotton, Brier works up quickly with a touch of unusual, textured lace for interest. Because of the lace pattern, this beanie is knitted flat (back and forth) in the beginning and then joined together and finished in the round after the lace panel is knit. Also, because of the lace pattern used (there are lace stitches on both the right side and the wrong side), this is a pattern best suited for an advanced lace knitter or a very adventurous learner!

There are two sizes included; the larger size (21” ribbing circumference) is more slouchy and can be worn a little loose, almost like a beret. The smaller size (19” ribbing circumference) is more like a normal beanie, but slouchy in the back.
If your style is a tighter beanie without slouch, simply knit either size of Brier in a worsted weight yarn instead of a bulky (you will need more than 120 yards).

Billow, the yarn used for this pattern, is a thick-thin type yarn so the gauge might be different than your typical bulky yarn. Be sure to knit a gauge swatch to make sure your gauge is correct, especially if substituting a different yarn.
