Brigitte is a crocheted cardigan with inpiration from the 70’s.
I have seen crochet garments with similar design from
various places and I decided to make my own simple version
of it. The body is crocheted in hdc stitches, and the granny
square motifs add a nostalgic feel. The sleeves are slightly
longer than a three‐quarter length, and a one‐button closure
finishes off the casual look.The variation of crochet stitches
make a nice contrast, so I just had to make sure the fitting
was right. It turned out to be a rather closely fitted shape,
which is perfect for using underneath my parka. I’m really
pleased since it is my first crocheted garment ever.
About sizing:
I made this pattern using my own body measurements, so it’s only one size. If you’re not a size S and wonder if you can use this, here is what I think you can do:
For this cardigan, the basic idea is to use the granny squares to form the bottom of the body and sleeves. So if you use a thicker yarn, or simply add a few rounds to make the squares bigger, you will end up with a bigger size, since you automatically will have more sc stitches across. I worked 2-3 sc sts in each space, but it could be more if you just keep it even and consistent (same sts for each square).
Then I think you can follow the rest of the shaping for your cardigan (decreases for armhole etc). You may want to add more stitches to the arms, because my pattern gives a pretty snug fit over the shoulders and arms.
