Brioche Ascending
Brioche Ascending is an asymmetrical triangle shaped brioche shawl which has been designed to introduce you to the stitches used in brioche lace patterns.
It begins with brioche rib and simple increases. New stitches are brought in one at a time with plenty of space to practice them before moving on. This will to allow you to build your skills and give you the confidence to work more complicated brioche patterns
The pattern is comprehensive with both written and charted instructions for every row. Links are provided to tutorials for all the stitches used
Needles
3.25/3.5mm mm circular needle, at least 24”/60cm long
The multicoloured sample used 3.25mm, the two colour sample used 3.5mm
Yarn
At least two colours of fingering weight yarn
The two colour sample used
Colour A – Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles, Fly colourway – Approximate amount used: 78g, 285m/311y
Colour B – EasyKnits Plume, Orion colourway – Approximate amount used: 50g, 300m/328y
Plume is a lace weight suri alpaca and silk blend, very similar in texture to a lot of the mohair silk blends. I often struggle to wear mohair next to skin but this has a lot of the same light and airy characteristics whilst also being super soft
The multicoloured sample used a single yarn for colour B and small amounts of various yarns for colour A.
Colour A – Various, including Malabrigo Mechita and other single ply yarns – Approximate total amount used: 82g, 304m/332y
Colour B – Fox Eats Fibre, Queen of the Heartlands colourway. Approximate amount used: 70g, 256m/279y
Extras – at least one removeable stitch marker and a tapestry needle
Gauge and size
Gauge is not crucial in this project but will affect the size of the shawl and the yardage used.
The two colour sample was knit at a gauge of 16sts/36rows per 10cm/4”
It is approximately 215cm/85” long by 55cm/22” wide
The multicoloured sample was knit at a gauge of 20sts/44rows per 10cm/4” in brioche rib
It is approximately 177cm/70” long by 45cm/18” wide
If you have purchased the pattern but would like a large print version then please let me know and I will be happy to provide it
