I just love the brioche stitch. For me there is a rhythm to it that is soothing and exciting at the same time. This pattern has a rather large center motif of framed leaves, with a small edge vine motif. But despite the number of rows in the pattern, the stitches are few and familiar to anyone who has done brioche before. The colors I chose for the piece (Foxy Lady, Porch Pumpkin and Hill Country) remind me of a New England fall afternoon. I used one skein of each color and did not use the entire skein of either.

Any fingering weight yarn will work here. Just make sure you have a strong contrast between the main and contrast colors to properly set off the pattern. Frequently the lighter of the 2 colors is used as the main color, but either way can be lovely. If you use a variegated yarn, pick a solid that is not used heavily in the variegated to really make the pattern pop.

The pattern is written for one size, but can easily be modified by repeating either the edge motifs or the center motif. I have included my thoughts on how to approach making it longer.

The gauge is really not critical here. It is more important that you like the fabric that you create. A swatch can be completed in either the pattern or the basic brioche stitch to ensure you like the fabric, or just start the scarf.
