Briochet Shawl
Although this is the first crochet pattern to be published by Bumblebee Acres, the Bumblebees have been crocheting far longer than knitting! In order to publish a crochet pattern that we figured was worthy of our love of crochet, we hooked up something extra special- the Briochet Shawl!
Pronounced \brē-ˈō-ˈshā\, the Briochet Shawl is exactly like the name suggests –it creates the charming, squashy, and colorful characteristics of the knit material brioche with crochet methods a crocheter of almost any level can manage!
This shawl can be worked in two contrasting colors with your working yarn stitched around your non working yarn, which is carried back across each row. This also adds strength and structure! Alternatively, it can be worked in one color without needing to carry your yarn- which still creates a shawl of lovely texture.
I am so thrilled to bring you this pattern, and I hope you enjoy it, too!
Yarn:
- Approximately 800 yds of fingering weight yarn in either 1 color or 2 contrasting colors. I used two skeins of Bumblebee Acres Farm’s Coquette Sock in colorways “Time Lord” for Color A and “Gallifrey” for Color B from their Doctor Who Inspired Collection.
Needles and Notions:
Crochet Hook in Size I/9
Progress Keeper
Sizing and Gauge: I find Gauge to be irrelevant in shawls. If you want to make a chunkier shawl with DK or Worsted weight yarn, just be sure you have enough yards to crochet with the recommended hook size!
