I’m not a big sucker for following trends, but I am a sucker for vintage buttons. This pattern nods to fall’s military looks, but subtly, and will be wearable long after epauletted jackets are shoved in the back of closets. Dig your fingers into your button jar (or visit a good fabric or vintage store) for a one of a kind touch. Buttons are decorative rather than functional so you can change them out anytime you like--or omit them.

MATERIALS:
80-100 yards worsted weight yarn
#6 needles, straight, circular, and dpn
stitch markers

GAUGE: 4.5 st per inch stockinette

SIZE: 7” hand, 6.25” wrist, 5-8” long

SIZING/YARN SUBSTITUTION:
You can size up or down or substitute a yarn that gives a gauge a bit smaller or a bit larger—you’ll need to increase or decrease the number of stitches cast on initially for the hand and also for the thumb hole. To keep your mitts warm and sturdy, make sure the knitted fabric is fairly dense.
