Broadway & 32nd Street :: A symmetrical triangle shawl with chevron stripes, alternating between one-color and two-color brioche for a beautiful blended effect, named for my daily subway stop in Manhattan while I was working there.

This shawl is part of my Street Graffiti Collection, featuring 3 patterns all using the same brioche chevron stripes. This collection is inspired by the time I spent living in New York, and are all named for streets that are dear to me. In my heart, I am a true New Yorker.

Choose 4 skeins of fingering weight yarn to create beautifully blended chevron stripes!! You could go with a slight gradation of colors, or just grab 4 colors that look amazing together! This pattern is perfect for those one-of-a-kind artisan skeins of speckled and variegated yarns in your stash!

Skill level: Intermediate. Basic brioche skills are not required, but are recommended. Techniques used: knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brioche increases and decreases, bottom-up triangle shawl shaping.

Construction Notes: This symmetrical triangle shawl is knit from the bottom up, with increases along the edges. Brioche increases are used at the edges, increasing 4 sts every MS row, 2 sts at each edge. You will alternate between One-Color and Two-Color Brioche chevron stripes for an amazing blended effect! The same chevron stitch pattern is repeated from the beginning of the shawl, but will change at the end for an exciting finish. This shawl can easily be modified by adding or omitting pattern repeats! I have written the pattern in the stripe sequence exactly as you see here in my sample. But feel free to make as many or as few stripes as you’d like!

I wear this shawl with the top edge wrapped warmly around my neck or shoulders, and the bottom point of the triangle facing down.

One size: 70” / 178 cm wingspan and 32” / 81 cm depth, measured after blocking.

Needles: 32” / 81 cm or longer US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles. Circular needles are used to accommodate large number of stitches and for brioche knitting.

Tools: tapestry needle for weaving in ends, row counter, optional stitch markers for noting lace repeats, optional locking stitch marker for noting MS of work

Gauge: 22 sts x 17 rows = 4” / 10 cm in one-color brioche stitch pattern (measured after blocking)
