Broken Oath
Broken Oath is a play on the classic Fishermans Sweater design that we all know and love. Worked in a deep, natural gray with bold details, it brings just a bit more drama to the usual formula.
I used the traditional approach, featuring overall texture on the body and cable panels around a center section at front. However, the elegant, undulating cables here are not the classic ones you usually see, and texture on the body has been translated into bold garter stitch stripes.
These details look fantastic in any color, but I added them specifically here because I wanted a design that would not be lost in a deep, gorgeous gray such as this one.
The yarn I used is Kent Worsted in Mussel Shell, from Bare Naked Wools. The subtle sheen and drape of this soft fiber is due to the mix of Romney and Merino in the custom blended fiber. And it was that mix, plus the perfect heather of this shade that had me the moment I spotted the skeins at last year’s Rhinebeck.
Broken Oath is worked in the round from hem to armholes and then split into front and back pieces, which are worked flat to shoulders. Once shoulders are seamed, stitches are picked up for both collar and sleeves, which are worked in the round to end.
Pattern contains many notes for modifications, and cables are both charted and written.
