Broken Rib Sock
This is a top down sock pattern that features a broken rib stitch pattern. The sock has a heel flap and short row heel, which could be easily substituted if desired.
It should be comprehensively written and therefore suitable for beginner knitters who want to try a sock for the first time. It will be a breeze for more advanced knitters or those who have knit socks before.
Because of the nature of ribbing, broken or otherwise, the stitch counts provided can be adjusted for a variety of sizes, in any multiple of four. I have included measurements for Woman’s Small, Woman’s Medium, and Woman’s Large/Men’s Small. Gauge isn’t crucial for this pattern.
If it’s knit with fingering/sock weight yarn with the recommended needles for the yarn, and you match that gauge, then you will be just fine. For optimal results, I’d recommend using any of the Knit Picks Stroll lines, or a comparable yarn line, such as Patons Sock or Deborah Norville Serenity Sock. However, the ribbing is extremely forgiving.
You will need 4 US 2 DPNs and about 450 yards in sock/fingering weight yarn. (I used 2 skeins of Knit Picks Stroll for the largest size, but you could likely get away with just one skein for the smaller sizes)
Sizes in Pattern:
• Child’s Large/Woman’s Small (approximately women’s shoe size US 5-7)

• Woman’s Large/Men’s Small (approximately women’s shoe size US 9.5-10)
