Bronze Age
This is a lovely piece of knitted art! The yarn, from Mirasol, is pure luxury…a shiny and soft strand of blended baby alpaca and silk. Soft as, well as a baby alpaca! You’ll need one skein of a dark color and one skein of a light color or two skeins of one color. (I used almost all of the light color, so have an extra skein available just in case). Needed are 348 6/0 beads, hooked on, and optional. They add a bit of sparkle to the drama of the overall design. (If you don’t want the beads, simply knit the stitch that would have been beaded.) There is a large, easy to read chart of the lace. Also, the chart has been written out for those not liking charts.
It’s so pretty (hard to convey in photos); the luxury of the yarn, the shine, the halo of the alpaca, and the glint of the beads. It is drapes nicely due to the fiber, and the weight of the beads also helps the drape. This would be beautiful for a wedding shawl in all white or cream. The lace at the bottom is deep and just gorgeous. Excellent for a gift!
The shawl is big and very wearable. You won’t have to fiddle with it to look good. The photos show different ways to wear it. There is a bit of easy slip stitch detail at the top and at the color change.
You will need to know or learn to k, p, k2tog, ssk, s2kpo. Directions for hooking on the beads (it’s easy!) are included as are directions for the simple wraps and turns. This is a great way to increase your lace and shawl shaping knowledge!
