May - June 2021 will bring the emergence of the 17 year cycling Brood X Cicadas to much of the Mid-Atlantic in USA.

Cicadas are slow, good natured insects that lay dormant underground for a time and then emerge with warm weather to eat and mate and die. Brood X Cicadas live on a 17 year cycle and are extremely plentiful.

All cicadas make a lovely rattle-sound in the trees during the summer, and many in the Mid-Atlantic region have visceral memories of the cicadas singing in the summer night.

This pattern is for both the nymph that will emerge from the ground and the metamorphosed adult. Cicadas can be numerous, so have fun knitting your own Brood X.

The pattern is kid-friendly - written especially so that the youngest knitters can enjoy making their own brood.

Yarn: Black and Brown in Worsted, Aran, or Bulky
