Brooke Shawl
2017 Sunshine Charlotte Designs CAL
Lace weight shawls are so delicate and beautiful, but they can also be surprisingly warm. This lovely shawl, worked in fingering weight yarn with a slightly larger hook than typically used with this weight creates an exploded pattern of flowers across this triangular shawl. The openness of the stitching not only makes for a soft, drapey wrap, but it also works perfectly for the warmer summer months.
The Brooke Shawl is worked from the bottom of the triangle up to the top in a 4-row repeat that makes a beautiful flowery pattern. While this is an Easy - Intermediate pattern due to the complexity of the written instructions, once you get the hang of the repeat, you won’t even need to look at the pattern any more! So that fingering weight yarn you bought because it was pretty but then stashed in your closet because you didn’t know what to do with it? Grab it and whip up the Brooke Shawl this month!
The Brooke Shawl is the July installment of the 2017 Sunshine Charlotte Designs Crochet ALong, which features a different shawl pattern each month. This year’s CAL projects are meant to be donated to a local children’s hospital - specifically a cancer ward - so they can be handed out to mothers who suffer the pain of watching their child be ill. I design and donate these shawls in memory of my daughter Charlotte, who died of brain cancer in July 2015.
