Broomstick Lace Blanket for Project Linus
This Broomstick Lace blanket pattern can be made in any size. It is usually made with worsted or aran weight yarn, but for this project, I used about 80% of a skein of Lion Brand Ice Cream Big Scoop yarn in Tutti Frutti, a light (3) weight yarn.
The broomstick (needle) I used was made for me from a real broomstick by my Granddaddy when I was a little girl and is just under an inch (about 23 mm) in diameter. The closest I could find in the list of knitting needles on Ravelry is a size 50 (25 mm). I’m sure a size 35 (19 mm) would be fine, too, and might work even better with a light weight/DK weight yarn. A 25 mm needle would work better with a worsted weight yarn.
This pattern includes instructions and pictures for the 31 x 42-inch Baby Blanket as well as instructions for calculating the number of stitches and rows needed for any size blanket/afghan. It is a very easy pattern to memorize (two rows and multiples of 5 stitches) and a relatively quick project.
