Brosnan Beanie
When you just really do not want to gauge check, a simple hat design is sometimes the perfect solution! If you love to experiment with yarn and hook combos, then this pattern will be a fun one for you!
This design was inspired by a few gorgeous “knit” hat patterns that I love to make. I wanted a similar look for crochet and this pattern was the result!
“Brosnan” means ‘dweller near the river’. The texture of this hat reminds me of long and beautiful flowing rivers. Double cables space evenly around the body of this hat resulting in a striking finished result with amazing STRETCH and TEXTURE!
Worked from the bottom up - this hat is easily adjusted for width and height sizing. The beginning of the hat is done using a foundation double crochet as the starting round. It is highly recommended that you be comfortable doing a foundation double chain before attempting this pattern. Learning this technique is a game changer especially for making hats.
Prefer a top down structure? The designer, Angie, from Whistle and Wool has a sweet beanie pattern with the same double cabled look (but different end result) that you may wish to try called the Cobblestone Post Hat!
The Brosnan Beanie pattern uses measurements as guides versus stitch counts - a bonus for those of us who hate gauge checking. If you are not comfortable working without provided stitch counts then you may not be comfortable working with this pattern.
Measurement starting points are provided for 1-5 years, 6-12 years, Adult woman, Adult man. It is encouraged that you have fun and play with different hook sizes and yarn weights to achieve the end result that works for you! Guidance for WORSTED and BULKY yarn are provided in the pattern. Some double stranded yarn combos also work amazingly well with this pattern!
Blank sizing charts are provided in the pattern so that you can write down the hook and yarn combos that work for you as well as the measurements that are perfect for the size of hat you are making.
Variegated yarns look AMAZING with this pattern as does color blocking and striping. SO many ways to play with color with this design. Have fun and enjoy!!
