ENGLISH
Bruga means “cool breeze” in Asturian (the dialect from the northern Spanish region where I was born), and this cardigan seems perfect for such an occasion. The Bruga Cardigan is very lightweight, with a loose fabric, and 3/4 length sleeves. It is knitted from the top down, working the button bands simultaneously with the rest of the body. The sleeves feature a simple and easy-to-memorize lace pattern. It can be knitted with any yarn weight, from fingering to bulky – the only difference will be how transparent and lightweight the fabric turns out.

MATERIALS
• Main needles: 6 mm (US 10) circular needles for the body and sleeves. Adjust needle size if necessary to achieve the same gauge as the pattern – see below.
• Ribbing needles: 5 mm (US 8) circular needles (or two sizes smaller than the main needles).
• Button band needles: 3 double-pointed needles, short circulars, or even interchangeable needles without the cable, 8 mm (US 11) (or 2 sizes larger than the main needles).
• Markers, tapestry needle, and scrap yarn or stitch holder for placing stitches on hold.

How to choose your size: measure your bust circumference, add the ease recommended below (i.e. 20-25 cm / 8-10 inches) and find the finished circumference at bust measurement below that is closest to that figure. Make sure your gauge matches the one given below to ensure your finished garment will be the same dimensions.

You can use yarn of any weight, from fingering to bulky, as long as it matches the indicated gauge. The only difference will be how dense or sheer the final fabric turns out.

For the dark pink version I used DK weight yarn: Rowan Fine Tweed Haze (37% alpaca, 37% wool, 13% polyamide, 9% cotton, 4% polyester, 215 m en 50 g) in the colourway Rose 003.

For the light pink version I used fingering yarn: Xolla Pastoreta (100% woollen spun wool, 200 m in 50 g) in the Matafoc colourway.

GAUGE
13 stitches and 20 rows in 10 cm / 4” in stocking stitch with the main needles, worked flat, after blocking.

ESPAÑOL

Bruga significa “airecillo fresco” en asturiano y esta chaqueta me parece perfecta para poner en tal ocasión. La chaqueta Bruga es muy ligera, con un tejido muy suelto y mangas 3/4. Se teje de arriba hacia abajo, trabajando las tapetas a la vez que el resto del cuerpo. Las mangas tienen un calado sencillo y fácil de memorizar. Se puede tejer con cualquier hilado, desde grosor fingering a bulky – la única diferencia será lo transparente y ligero que quede el tejido.

MATERIALES
• Agujas principales: agujas circulares de 6 mm para el cuerpo y para las mangas. Ajustar el número de aguja si es necesario para conseguir la misma tensión que el patrón – ver más abajo.
• Agujas de los elásticos: agujas circulares de 5 mm (o dos medidas menos que las agujas principales).
• Agujas de la tapeta: 3 agujas de doble punta, circulares cortas o incluso agujas intercambiables sin el cable de 8 mm (o 2 medidas más que las agujas principales).
• Marcadores, aguja lanera y lana de desecho o sujetapuntos para poner puntos en espera.

Cómo elegir tu talla: mide tu contorno de pecho, añade la holgura recomendada (20-25 cm) y encuentra la medida de contorno de pecho de la prenda terminada que más se aproxime a esa cifra. Asegúrate de que tu tensión coincide con la que se indica para que tu chaqueta tenga las mismas medidas.

Puedes usar lana de cualquier grosor, desde fingering a bulky con tal de que te dé la tensión indicada. La única diferencia será lo tupido o transparente que resulte el tejido final.

Para la versión rosa fucsia usé lana de grosor DK: Rowan Fine Tweed Haze (37% alpaca, 37% lana, 13% poliamida, 9% algodón, 4% poliester, 215 m en 50 g) en el color Rose 003.

Para la versión rosa pálido usé lana de grosor fingering: Xolla Pastoreta (100% lana cardada, 200 m en 50 g) en el color Matafoc.

TENSIÓN
