When humpback whales hunt for krill, sometimes they blow bubbles to create a swirling net. Then the whales swim up through the center of the bubble net and strain the captured krill through their baleen. This shawl tried to imitate this bubble net with columns of eyelets. It finishes with undulating ribbing to represent the whales’ jaws.

Bubble Net is an asymmetrical triangular shawl knit on the bias from one tip to the opposite edge. The shawl grows one stitch every right side row along the top edge.

Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but using a different yarn weight or needle size will affect the size of the finished shawl.

The pattern contains instructions for adjusting the size of the shawl to use up all one’s yarn. Knitters also may experiment with using a lighter or heavier weight yarn and a different needle size.

Please note that changing the size of the shawl will affect the amount of yarn needed.
