IMPORTANT NOTE: This pattern will remain a FREE Ravelry download forever, thanks to my wonderful local yarn shop, Stars Hollow Yarns. :) Check out their website to find all sorts of fiber goodness, including the yarns called for in this pattern!! If you purchase something, make sure to let Lisa know that I sent you so that I can keep creating free content for you guys.

As some of you know, a few years ago my mental health took a deep, deep dive. I was so sick that I was unable to work for nearly a month. During that very difficult time, I decided to use up some of the special hand-dyed yarns I had bought on several vacations over the years, and I cast on what would become the original Bubblegum Brioche scarf. Through my illness, this instantly became my comfort project. The rhythm of the brioche stitch combined with the changing colors of merino and mohair just soothed my soul, and I know this pattern will do the same for you.

This scarf is made in a large rectangular shape, using simple two-color brioche with some beautiful color changes throughout. Brioche knit flat can be a bit confusing at first, but my goal with this free pattern – kindly sponsored by Stars Hollow Yarns – and photo tutorial is to demystify this popular and fun stitch! I would say that if you are comfortable with knitting, purling, and yarnovers, you can definitely master brioche with a bit, no, a LOT of practice. ;) I even included instructions for how to customize this pattern for different yarn weights!

Now I get to talk about my favorite part of this whole project: THE YARN!!! Bubblegum Brioche features 3 main colors (I recommend using a single-ply fingering weight merino) featured in the “front” of the scarf, and 3 contrast colors (I recommend using a lace weight mohair) for the “back.” I use quotation marks here because this piece is completely reversible – both sides are equally beautiful! All of the yarns I used are listed in the materials section, and all are available both online and in-store at Stars Hollow Yarns. I am so lucky to be a part of this wonderful knitting community and I highly recommend that you check out all the amazing yarns on their website! I think it’s so cool that you can buy whatever catches your eye and have it shipped directly to your door, all while supporting a woman-owned small business that sources only the highest quality, most ethical yarns. You can’t beat that!
