Bubbles
Bubbles of knit stitches pop against a purl background in this comfy unisex hat.
A fun way to use a variegated or unicolor yarn, Bubbles highlights color depth through its use of texture. I love how purl stitches look in a variegated yarn, almost like a painted palette. Bubbles showcases knit diamond shapes moving up a purl background, the best of both worlds. Cabling is used to surround the knit bubbles to really make them pop.
Sample hat was knit in Malabrigo Rios, whose soft hand makes knitting a delight. Cast on in worsted wool for a soft, warm hat that’s ready to fight off the winter chill.
Yarn: Malabrigo Rios superwash wool, 210 yards per 3.5 ounces; Color: 809 Solis; 1 skein
Needles: US size 8 (5mm) 16” circular; and a set of US size 8 (5mm) DPNs
Notions: You’ll need one stitch marker to demarcate the beginning of the row. If you’d like to mark between the motifs, you’ll want 4 more.
Gauge: One chart repeat (16 stitches over 20 rows) is approximately 3 inches by 2.5 inches
Finished Measurements: 10” to brim, fits 20-22” head. Meant to be a bit slouchy at the top.
