A triangular shawl worked in one and two colour brioche, Bubbleweed is decorated with undulating lines of bubbles (not bobbles!).

The waves of bubbles in the shawl reminded me of seaweed, waving back and forth with the tide. This led to the name Bubbleweed, otherwise known as Neptune’s pearls, or sea grapes.

The pattern has both written instructions and charts. Detailed descriptions are included for the more unusual stitches used.

Materials:
• Fingering weight yarn in two colours, 720m/787yds for the main colour (MC) and 330m/361yds for the contrast colour (CC).
• 3.75mm/US 5 circular needle with an 80cm/32” or longer cable.
• Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Size of finished shawl:
Wingspan 178cm/71.25”, depth 76cm/30.5”, relaxed after blocking. This size is adjustable by working a different number of repeats of the main body section.

Gauge:
Obtaining gauge is not essential, as long as you are happy with the fabric you are getting. Different gauge will affect the size of the finished object and the amount of yarn used.

The sample shawl had a gauge of 18 stitches and 21 rows of two colour brioche rib in a 10cm x 10cm (4” x 4”) square, after blocking.
