24 sts & 48 rows = 4′′ / 10cm in 2 row stockinette stitch + 2 rows garter stitch after blocking

If you want the large border like my sample, then achieving the recommended gauge is important, so you don’t run out of yarn. I recommend binding off early with the smaller border option to be safe if you are worried about running out of yarn. You can also use a kitchen scale to weigh your yarn as you knit the border rows. This will provide an indication of your yarn usage during the long border rows.
