Bud Vase is the third and final shawl in the new trio of shawls for Sexy Spines Volume 2! The Yarn Hollow Company sent me some of their Silky Sock fingering yarn in the colorway “Cherry Mochaccino.” Bud Vase uses faux cables and a delicate flower-like pattern to create its dramatic spine. The Bud Vase Lace Edging uses faggoting, more faux cables and a beautiful twin holed diamond pattern with triple yarn overs to create its elaborate edging and to bring the design together. It’s very hard to pick favorites but I’m very fond of this shawl pattern and I hope you will be too!

Charted instructions with written support

Construction:This shawl is knit top down with increases on both sides to create its crescent shape. When the body is finished, the stitches for Bud Vase’s lace edging are cast on using a knitted CO. The border is knit back and forth joining the last stitch of every RS row together with a stitch from the main body.

Dimensions: The largest shawl in this series, it measures 18 inches down the center back and 45 inches from the bottom of the center back to the tips. Measuring across the top when laid flat it measures 62 inches wide.

Yardage: Approximately 1300 yds; I used both skeins when knitting. My test knitter used 2 ½ skeins of fingering weight yarn. If you are a loose knitter you will need to account for it in your yardage. I have added generous yardage estimates for loose knitters. This is by far the largest shawl in this series.
