I know that’s quite a name…sometimes I just call it the Buford blanket. Buford is the name that I have given to my friend’s unborn baby, for whom I designed this blanket. By the time I put this pattern up, Buford will have been born and most likely he will have a name that has been chosen by his parents. My guess is that it probably won’t be Buford…oh well.

I typically have no interest in designing or knitting for wee ones, but this is a very close friend having a very long-awaited baby…I had to make something for him. The blanket was designed to match the theme my friend picked for the nursery. The yarn I selected is inexpensive, very soft with a soft sheen, washable (important for baby things!) and widely available in lots of colors!

Here are some other suggestions for how you might customize this pattern for your own wee one, or a friend’s.
• Simply Soft comes in a lot of different colors, pick colors that coordinate to the wee one’s nursery. The combinations are virtually endless. If you decide to use another type of yarn, be sure to check gauge…and I would HIGHLY recommend choosing a washable yarn.
• Also, feel free to change the border. I chose a narrow seed stitch border…but any old border will do. Try a garter stitch or broken rib border.
• Finally, the argyle pattern can be made any size…just maintain the proportions.
