The latest edition to our family car collection is a classic VW Beetle and I’m quite enjoying making “bug” themed goodies. I’ve decided to have a go at a creating a pattern for a knitted Bug Bag this time. Hope you like it!

Please note: I live in the UK and my patterns are all written in English using UK terminology

The finished bag measures approximately 11″/28cm square and is knitted using double knitting weight yarn on 5mm needles (3.25mm needles for the lights).
It is lined and closes using a purse frame. The straps are created using plaited yarn.
To make a bag you’ll need the following:
3.25mm and 5mm knitting needles
Double Knitting yarn in the following:
Main Colour–195 metres/150g
Cream – 32 metres/25g
Grey – 16 metres/12g
A small amount of toy filling
A 20cm wide sew in Purse Frame with loops for a strap (I’ve created the pattern to use a frame but you could substitute a zip instead)
Fabric for lining – 2 squares measuring approximately 12”/31cm each
The pattern includes charts along with full written instructions and step by step photos on how to sew the bag together. If you’ve not used a purse frame before there are lots of tutorials by various people on YouTube to show you how to sew them in.
