This pattern is named for the little town across the lake from where I live. The original version of this pattern was written for worsted weight yarn, but I’ve added instructions for bulky weight yarn to make a super quick knit.

This hat features a clean decrease that looks nice with and without a pom pom.

This pattern includes instructions for two types of bulky weight yarn. The first version works well with a standard plied bulky yarn and includes a cozy folded brim. If you can’t find hand-dyed bulky yarn, Malabrigo Chunky, Lion Brand Hue and Me or Color Made Easy work great. The second version is written specifically for hand- dyed single ply chunky yarn. This yarn often comes in a 100g/76 yard skein of merino wool. If you can’t find hand-dyed yarn, Baah Sequoia, Madeline Tosh A.S.A.P. are good substitutes. All versions are likely a one skein project.

Please note that I have a separate Aran/Worsted version of this pattern, the Birchwood Beanie that was published in March 2021. The Birchwood Beanie is an Aran/Worsted weight pattern. This listing is for the BULKY version and includes instructions for Bulky/Chunky yarn, but not instructions for aran/worsted. Please make sure you purchase the correct one!
