The BUN (Bottom Up Neckflap) Hat provides that extra warmth for the neck that earflaps miss. It was designed as an easy, quick knit for charity/giving, and makes a nice fashion statement at the same time! The neckflap is knit flat in garter stitch, then stitches are cast-on - using the backward loop method - for the front brim and joined to work in the round for the rest of the hat.

Instructions are given for two sizes: 18” and 20” circumference. The basic gauge is 3.5 sts./inch. Alternatively, the second set of instructions will give an 18” circumference hat if the pattern is knit at 4 sts./inch.

Materials —
Yarn: This hat can be made with 80-100 yards of bulky weight yarn or a combination of yarns stranded together that will give the gauge above.

Yarn suggestions: Lamb’s Pride Bulky, Brown Sheep Nature Spun Chunky, Cascade 220 double stranded, or other worsted double stranded.

Needles: US #10 (6 mm) 16” circular needle and DPNs (or size to achieve above gauge)
