Bunad Mukluks
Pattern description from Folk Style: “these woolly mukluks are a fusion of Inuit-style footwear and the embellishments of Norwegian folk costumes. Robin Melanson added embroidery, fringe, and multicolored tassels that are typically used to decorate mittens and gloves. ‘One of the things I find interesting about folk pieces is the elaborate decoration of very simple items, often showing the personality of the creator. In an era where we have such easy access to mass-produced clothing, it’s nice to contemplate how, in the past, people spent so much time crating and decorating their clothing, and also to try and re-create the joy of detail that we may have somewhat lost.’”
Notions: Markers (m); stitch holder; tapestry needle; sharp-point sewing needle; sewing thread; pins; cardboard for making tassels; sharp-point embroidery needle; 1 pair suede slipper soles to mate foot length (available from www.fibertrends.com; soles were dyed black with fabric dye).
