Wrap yourself up in a bundle of stars during the long nights of mid-winter. Long for a clear night, willing the clouds dissipate and the sky to become illuminated by sheafs of sparkling light. The North Star winks, whilst constellations hold hands, dancing in and out of view.
The Bundle of Stars shawl is part of the Mid-Winter Knits collection, a collaborative project with Aroha Knits. Four designs are inspired by the practice of stargazing at Matariki, the Maori New Year, which falls on the Southern Hemisphere’s winter solstice. You might also like the Starlit Night mitts design!
This parallelogram-shaped shawl combines different yarns and colours across 3 stitch patterns. The Slipped-Stitch Pattern expands from the cast-on point, followed by a rectangle of garter rib. Finally, striped bands decrease back to a point. The shawl is finished with an Applied I-Cord border around the outer edge.
