Buneary (Pokemon)
This week I’m bringing you Buneary, one of my all time favorite Pokemon! I absolutely love bunnies so naturally Buneary and I were destined to be together. This is one of the rare times where I’m 100% happy with a design, so I’m hoping that some of you will love this little guy as much as I do and work on creating a global army of Bunearies!
Materials
To make Buneary you will need:
– A 2.5mm and a 3.5mm crochet hook
– Brown yarn (dk) and light yellow/creme cuddly yarn (I used Baby Velvet by James G. Brett which is chunky) as well as regular light yellow/creme yarn (dk); plus small amounts of black and pink for the mouth and nose
– A tapestry needle and scissors
– Stuffing
– Safety eyes
– Pink felting wool for the ear (you could crochet this instead)
– A stitch marker to help you keep track of the start of the round
Please note that you can make Buneary using any size crochet hook and yarn weight for a smaller or bigger result. I like using DK as it’s most commonly available. If you make amigurumi, it is usually recommended to go down a bit from the recommended hook size for the yarn to allow for a no-hole look (we don’t want to see the stuffing show through in between stitches)! Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm crochet hook for the main parts, Buneary be about 18cm tall.
Stitches & Abbreviations
The pattern is written using US crochet terms in continuous spirals. You will need to know the following kinds of stitches to make him:
– Magic Ring (MR)
– Chaning (ch)
– Single crochet (sc)
– Decrease (dec); preferably using the invisible decrease method
– Increase (inc)
– Half double crochet (hdc)
NOTE: It can be very hard to keep up with your stitch count if you’re using cuddly yarn as it’s basically impossible to see your actual stitches. I therefore recommend you keep counting as you go along, and if you notice you’re a few stitches short shortly before the end of the round, just work some increases. Don’t worry too much about the exact stitch count as you won’t be able to see the stitches anyways. The body fluff and ear fluff are worked using the 3.5mm hook, everything else with the 2.5mm hook.
