Bunny Hat
Do you want to dress your baby, or your preschooler in a hat that makes them into a cute little bunny? Of course you do! Has your school-aged or older child been asking you for “cool” hats with features instead of boring single color or striped beanies? Of course they have! This is also a good last-minute Halloween costume accessory, for those moments when we’re a less prepared parent than we’d like to be.
This hat is worked in the round from the brim up, and the “ear” stitches are set aside on holders to be re-worked later. If you’ve never set aside stitches on a holder, this is a great intro to the technique, as they aren’t needed for shaping or anything more complex than icord.
Techniques Used
- Casting on
- Joining to work in the round
- Knit stitch
- Setting stitches on a holder
- Knit 2 together (or the decreases of your choice)
- icord
- Weaving in ends
Additional supplies needed
- Something to hold the spare stitches, whether an official “stitch holder” or a scrap of yarn
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
A previous version of this pattern is available for free, but it is not tested or edited and contains multiple errors, so if you’re finding yourself frustrated with that, please give the PDF a try.
Happy Knitting!
