Burst
Burst Is an asymmetrical triangular shawl knit from the bottom up. The top ends with a little picot edge. The lace is added by picking up along the sides after the body is finished.
Burst is a shawl I designed especially for Jessemaebee, she won my pattern design competition. I used the things she told me about herself as a starting point. Jesse like many of us found it hard to talk about herself, especially finding words she would use to describe herself. She asked some friends for help.
She is a chef and loves bold bright colours. She mentioned lime and orange and that the colours she wears don’t always have to go. She is energetic and fun. Her colour choices reminded me of a beaded bracelet that I have. This inspired the bold stripes to go with her personality.
The Nurturing Fibres yarn that I used had wonderful food names which just seemed to fit perfectly with Jesse being a chef. Lettuce, Tangerine, Olive and Tomato ( okay so it was not called tomato but I am using a bit of poetic licence here) These names made me think of a summer salad, a burst of colour and a burst of flavour.
I designed an asymmetrical shawl because Jesse is quirky and needed something a little less ordinary. Perfectly imperfect.
While the bold stripes are the side of her that Jesse shows people, I added the lace panels to show that we all have a softer more vulnerable side to us that we may not show . It can be hard to let this side out or for other to see it hidden behind our bolder front.
