A Canadian yarn and a famous Canadian garden are the inspiration behind this crescent shaped shawlette. The shawl was designed as a one skein project for Handmaiden Fine Yarns Sea Silk, but it would probably look lovely in other yarns as well, as long as they are smooth enough to show off the detail of the texture stitch.

The pattern was knit from from the top down on a 24” circular needle. The texture stitches used have a feminine, crochet look, but they are indeed knit! The flower stitch used in the border is a not commonly known stitch made by gathering dropped stitches. A link to a “How To” video is included in the pattern. A unique cast off is used to enhance the scalloped edge.

The pattern is of Intermediate Difficulty. The shaping is kept pretty simple and the pattern stitches have short, easy to memorize repeats. The main stitches used are not difficult, but they require a bit of manipulation and can be a bit slow to knit. Techniques used include yarnovers, increases, decreases, dropped stitches, and an unusual bind off.

The pattern is written only (not charted). The finished size after blocking was 48” by 15”. Any substitution of yarns will, of course, effect your gauge, yardage requirements and final measurements.

An errata in the original version had a missing YO before the last 3 stitches of row 10. A new version of the pattern is now online which corrects this error and also omits the instructions to use markers which were giving some knitters difficulty due to the placement near the YO’s. The new version is marked as revised Jan 2018.
