Why Butter and Eggs you ask? Well, I designed this pattern with a special yarn in mind which happens to be hand-dyed in my hometown of Petaluma, CA. The design incorporates oval motifs and, if using merino wool, well it’s as soft as butter. So much of Petaluma’s identity is linked to the dairy and poultry industries, hence butter and eggs. If you take a walk downtown, you’ll see little hints of the town’s ties in street signs, designs on the side of buildings, and the still thriving agricultural-based businesses there. There’s even a parade, the Butter and Eggs Day Parade, which is held every year in April! In middle school and high school, I marched down the streets of Petaluma, holding my clarinet, rain or shine to celebrate my town’s chicken-y, butter-y heritage! I hope you enjoy this pattern, an homage to my hometown, as much I enjoyed designing it.
