This butterfly can be made with any yarn or hook, and any colors - it just depends on the maker’s preference. My examples were made with worsted weight and sport weight yarns.

Some 40+ years ago, my grandmother used to crochet butterflies and glue magnets to the back, to be used as refrigerator magnets. I decided maybe 10 years ago to attempt to recreate her butterflies, although what I came up with was less lacy than hers. Recently, I decided to embellish a bit more and added the final border round for a swallowtail look. This is what I landed on! These can be used as embellishments or stand-alone decoration.

Please note I am not a pattern designer in general - this is the only one I’ve written so far, and I wanted to write it down so I wouldn’t have to re-create it later. I also wanted to share it in case anyone else likes it or wants to elaborate/improve on it further!
