When I first got my hands on the gorgeous shawl-striping yarn by Caterpillargreen Yarns, I knit it into the top-down triangular shawl that it is meant to be. But after that, my mind began to wonder – what would happen if I broke the rules and tried other shawl scapes for the yarn? Well, the yarn works just as wonderful as for triangular shawls! Butterfly in the Sunset is the second in a series of shawls using Caterpillargreen yarn for shawls that are not triangular. The pattern is written out as well as charted.

Size: 145 cm [57’’] wingspan, 67 cm [26.5’’] deep

Gauge: 22 sts = 10 cm [4’’] in stockinette stitch after blocking
(Gauge is not vital for this project, but it will affect the size of the FO and yardage.)

Materials:
Caterpillargreen Yarns MCN Shawl Stripes (170 g [6 oz], 548 m [599 yd], 70 % superwash merino, 20 % cashmere, 10% nylon), 1 hank size XL, colorway Ocean Sunset
Or approx. 535 m [585 yd] fingering weight yarn of your choice
4 mm [US 6] 80 cm (32”) circular needle, or a size that gives you a fabric you like.
(Designer’s note: I’m a loose knitter, so you may want to try bigger needles if you aren’t.)
4 stitch markers, 2 of Color A, 2 (preferably open or lockable) of Color B

Skills needed:
Garter tab cast on (explained in the pattern)
Increases (yo, central double increase; see Abbreviations on page 8-9 and photo tutorial for cdi on page 10)
Decreases (k2tog, ssk, k3tog, sssk, central double decrease, p2tog, ssp; see Abbreviations on page 8-9 )
A few WS rows of the Butterfly Chart are patterned.

Als ich zum ersten Mal das wunderschöne selbststreifende Garn von Caterpillargreen Yarns in der Hand hatte, habe ich daraus ein Dreieckstuch von oben gestrickt, weil es genau dafür gefärbt ist. Aber dann begann ich nachzudenken – was würde passieren, wenn ich die Regeln breche und andere Tuchformen ausprobiere? Nun, das Garn passt dafür genauso gut wie für dreieckige Tücher! Butterfly in the Sunset ist das zweite Tuch in einer Serie von Tüchern, die Caterpillargreen Yarns für nicht dreieckige Tücher verwenden. Die Anleitung ist sowohl ausgeschrieben auch als gechartet.

Grösse: Breite ca. 145 cm, Höhe ca. 67 cm

Maschenprobe: 22 M = 10 cm in Glatt Rechts – nach dem Spannen
(Die Maschenprobe ist nicht entscheidend für das Gelingen, beeinflusst aber die Grösse des fertigen Strickstücks und den Garnverbrauch.)

Caterpillargreen Yarns MCN Shawl Stripes (170 g [6 oz], 548 m [599 yd], 70 % Merino, 20 % Kaschmir, 10% Nylon), 1 Strang Grösse XL, Farbe Ocean Sunset
Oder ca. 535 m Sockenwolle Ihrer Wahl
4 mm 80 cm Rundstricknadel, oder eine Nadelstärke, bei der Ihnen das Gestrick gefällt.
(Anmerkung der Designerin: Ich stricke eher locker, eventuell wird eine dickere Nadel benötigt)
4 Maschenmarkierer, 2 in Farbe A, 2 (nach Möglichkeit offen oder verschliessbar) in Farbe B

Garter tab Maschenanschlag (wird in der Anleitung erklärt)
Zunahmen (Umschläge, zentrierte doppelte Zunahme; s. Abkürzungen auf S. 7-8 und Fototutorial für zdZ auf S. 10)
Abnahmen (2 M re zus str, ssk, 3 M re zus str, sssk, zentrierte doppelte Abnahme, 2 M li zus str, ssp; s. Abkürzungen auf S. 7-8)
Einige Rückreihen in Chart B sind gemustert.
