Butterfly Meadow Table Runner
This table runner was inspired by fields that are filled with tiny white butterflies in the spring, flitting around to find nectar in the wildflowers. Their grace is now the centerpiece of the dining room table. Lace butterflies fill the center panel surrounded by delicate little leaves.
There are two borders on this runner. The first is knit sideways along the inner bottom edge with mitered corners. Stitches are then picked up along the top of this border and the inner side borders and center panel are worked as one piece. Once the center panel is complete, the inner top border is then mitered and worked sideways, again picking up stitches across the top.
The second border is the lace leaves, which are worked around the edge by picking up stitches at the end of each right side row. It is worked as a continuous attached strip, with extra stitches placed in the corners.
The sample was knit using a linen fiber yarn, which I highly recommend. It gives the runner a nice crisp feel, perfect for a table centerpiece.
