Butterfly Wings
Who doesn’t love a bit of crocheted whimsy? This crochet pattern will help you to create a stunning pair of butterfly wings using your crochet skills and the frame from children’s costume wings (commonly found at dollar stores). With a bit of reshaping and some creative crochet, generic wings become the custom, fluttering costume piece you’ve been looking for! This lightweight, airy design makes personalization easy by weaving in your favorite fabric scraps, ribbon, or lace.
This pattern includes instructions to crochet 4 wing panels to fit within a pre-made butterfly wing frame (measuring approximatley 17”x14.5”), and includes instructions for a small body piece, and elastic or ribbon straps. It is of easy difficulty and comes with over 40 progress photos.
Prior knowledge of crochet techniques is required to complete this project. This pattern requires a size h (5.00mm) crochet hook and 145 yards of worsted weight yarn. Additionally, 145 yards of lace weight yarn can be held double stranded with the worsted weight to add dimension without affecting the gauge. Please note that additional materials and tools may be required when adjusting your wings frame, including a small amount of floral wire, felt/fabric, and hot glue.
