Butterick's Myrtle Leaf Lace
I’m so happy to post this: I love leaves and Myrtle was my dear grandmother’s middle name! This charming edging is from 1902 Butterick Publishing’s Fancy and Practical Knitting, p.33, no. 41. It starts with 26 stitches. Over 12 rows, it increases to 34, then returns to 26 stitches on the 12th row. Every row is a “fancy” row. I changed the selvage stitch for easier sewing.
The sample is 3.75 inches at its widest (at a point). It takes about 20 minutes to knit 12 rows/1 repeat.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, yarn over, yarn over twice, k2tog, SSK, SK2P and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
15 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make about 3 inches (36 rows) in the stated gauge.
