Just one step up from plain vanilla socks, just as butterscotch topping changes a dish of vanilla ice cream into something a bit more special, these socks have a stockinette stitch front and back, a variation of 1x1 ribbing on the sides and a slightly different gusset. After the heel flap is knit and the heel turned, the picked up gusset stitches continue the side pattern, eventually using up all the stitches leaving a plain stockinette end of foot.

The smooth areas might showcase a beautiful hand-dyed yarn, the ribbing adds a little bit of texture. A pattern could be substituted for the plain center if desired.

This cuff down sock with heel flap, round heel, modified gusset and standard toe is suitable for any sock yarn. While designed for 5 double pointed needles, it could easily be adapted for magic loop, 2 circulars or any other small circumference method’, There are two places in the pattern where stitches are rearranged. The pattern is written for 64 stitches (circumference of 8 inches). The foot length can be adjusted (written for about a 9 inch sock - women’s medium)
