Button Pusher
This project is the answer to more than one crafting problem. Do you wonder how to enjoy the last precious bits of hand dyed, hand spun, or high-end yarns? Do you have a button jar (or need an excuse to snag one)? What will you do with all the lonely, mismatched buttons? Need a fast gift or craft fair item? Knit garter stitch tabs with built-in buttonholes, add buttons, then link them together to create a cute bracelet. Fashionable grownups and kids playing dress up can both appreciate this!
Pattern includes: complete written instructions for 4 button tab widths in any gauge with any yarn, plus ideas to customize your project. You can make even more button tabs for an endless array of items: belts, headbands, choker necklaces, purse straps and more.
Yarn: Any yarn weight, only small quantities needed.
Gauge: Any gauge. The tabs are small enough that you’ll be able to use the tab itself as a swatch.
Needles: 2 DPNs sized for selected yarn. Go down a needle size or two from what you’d normally use with the yarn; you want to create a tight and sturdy fabric.
Notions: Buttons! Shown with assorted vintage buttons.
Thread, embroidery floss, or sock weight yarn for attaching buttons to button tabs. Sharp sewing needle for sewing on buttons.
Sizes: Pattern includes 4 choices of width for the button tabs, and each can be made with any yarn weight for a wide range of sizes.
Skills: Casting on, knit, K2tog decrease, SSK decrease, YO increase, YOO increase, casting off, attaching buttons.
Accessibility Notes: 12 point serif font with bolded and some underlined headings, no columns (except for abbreviation key).
