By The Sea
The By The Sea sweater is a classic and timeless design. The seafoam stitch section at the bottom adds a fun twist to this simple piece. This sweater is worked in the round from the bottom up and then separated at the armholes to work front and back separately. The set-in balloon sleeves are worked by picking up stitches around the armhole and shaped by working German Short Rows.
SIZES
XS, (S, M, L) (XL, 2XL, 3XL) (4XL, 5XL)
Choosing the right size is of utmost importance. Take your body measurements and choose the size that corresponds with them. The recommended ease for this design is approx. 0-10 cm (0-4 inches) of negative ease. The measurements below are the finished garment measurements, not your own.
Chest circumference:
70, (80, 90, 100) (110, 120, 130) (140, 150) cm
27½, (31½, 35½, 39½) (43½, 47¼, 51) (55, 59) inches
Armhole depth:
17, (18½, 19¼, 20) (21½, 23, 24) (25½, 26) cm
6¾, (7¼, 7½, 7¾) (8½, 9, 9½) (10, 10¼) inches
The pattern includes a full size chart. Feel free to email me if you need any additional measurements.
MATERIALS
Needles:
5 mm circular needle (US size 8, UK size 6) or other needle size that matches gauge. I recommend using an 80 cm or 100 cm circular needle for the body, depending on the size you’re knitting. The sleeves can be worked on a 40 cm circular needle, but DPNs or the magic loop method may be easier for the smaller sizes.
4 mm 60 cm circular needle (US size 6, UK size 8) for the neck ribbing, and 4 mm DPNs or circular needle for the sleeve ribbing. You can use DPNs or the magic loop method with a longer circular needle.
Yarn:
Yarn and Colors Baby Fabulous, 45% cotton & 55% acrylic, 50g/102m/111yd
9, (10, 10, 11) (12, 13, 14) (15, 16) balls in main color and 1 ball in contrasting color.
Other tools:
Darning needle, scissors, stitch markers, measuring tape, scrap yarn OR extra cable.
GAUGE
20 sts x 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch on 5 mm needles.
