Today we are often far apart from those we love. The By Your Side Shawl is meant to help you keep your loved one close and remind you that you will be near them once again.

The By Your Side Shawl grows from a square into a rectangular shaped shawl with points at each end. The design alternates between a filet diamond pattern rows of special cluster stitches to create a unique design. The length and width of the shawl are easily adjustable.

Level: Intermediate
The pattern uses two special stitches and one decrease stitch. There is a detailed picture tutorial.

Size:
Adjustable. Information is included to change the width of the pattern. The length can be adjusted by working more or fewer pattern repeats.
The pictured shawl is 72” wide by 14” deep before blocking and 77” wide by 14” deep after blocking and used one whirl 1094 yards (225 g) of fingering weight yarn.

The pattern is written in English using US crochet terms. The PDF download includes:

• A picture tutorial with 54 pictures detailing every row and special stitch

• A list of abbreviations Two pdfs are included: a printer friendly pattern and a longer tutorial.

I made the pictured shawl with Scheepjes Whirl yarn (1094 yards) and an E (3.50 mm) hook. However, the pattern can be worked with any yarn. It has been tested in fingering, sport, DK, and bulky weight yarn.
