C2C Rainbow Wall Hanging
Use this pattern to create a stylish rainbow wall hanging, with tassel detail.
Level:
This pattern is suitable for improving beginners who can confidently crochet the UK treble (US double) crochet. It uses the corner to corner (C2C) crochet technique and introduces adding texture to C2C projects by using popcorn stitch. This pattern uses the UK double crochet, treble crochet, chain and extended double crochet (US single crochet, double crochet, chain and extended single crochet).
Pattern notes
This pattern includes a general photo tutorial for the C2C technique including how to change colour and how to make C2C popcorn stitch. Written descriptions of all other stitches are also included. A colour chart for the actual pattern is included as well as a written list of the colour changes. Instructions are given on how to read the chart. Photo tutorials for making the border, mounting your work on a hanging bar and making tassels is also included. There are 18 pages in total.
Pattern options
The pattern is available in both UK and US terms, and in versions for both left and right handed crocheters (left-handers crochet in the opposite direction and will meet the colour changes at different points). The left-handed version also includes left-handed photos in the C2C photo tutorial.
Recommended yarn/ Finished size:
The main example photo shown uses Scheepjes Stonewashed XL yarn, which is a heavy aran/worsted weight yarn. This works up a wall hanging that is ~ 26 cm x 26 cm (excluding tassels).
If you use a more standard aran/worsted yarn, like Stylecraft Special Aran or Caron Simply Soft the final square will be: ~ 24 cm x 24 cm.
I am a reasonably firm crocheter, if you crochet loosely, your square will come up bigger and use more yarn.
You will need:
• Aran/Worsted weight yarn in sky blue, dark blue, green, yellow, orange, red and white tones.
• 5.5 mm/I hook (Scheepjes Stonewashed XL) or 5mm/H hook (Stylecraft Special Aran,
Caron Simply Soft).
• 6mm diameter wooden dowl, approximately 35cm long
• Scissors
• Yarn needle
Yarn amounts
You will need less than 50g of white, less than 15g of each of the rainbow colours and less than 25g of the sky blue if using aran/worsted weight yarn. Instructions are provided on how to calculate exactly how much yarn you will need at your own gauge or if you are using a different yarn weight.
