C2C Shell Stitch Blanket
Corner to Corner Shell Stitch pattern.
UK and US terminology with written instructions and step by step photographs.
This design uses the ever popular method of corner to corner construction, but using a lovely textured shell stitch pattern to create a diagonal mermaid scale effect. The stitches are straight forward; dc, tr and ch (US sc, dc) making this a great project for a beginner, or a therapeutic yet addictive project for an advanced crocheter to enjoy.
The pattern itself uses a two row repeat; increasing until the halfway point (any size you wish!) and then decreasing. This means, unlike most crochet projects, once you reach halfway your rows get shorter! Satisfying and motivating as you reach the end!
The result is a lovely, textured square shape, perfect for cushions, bags or blankets. The repetitive construction makes it a calming and enjoyable project. Alternatively, you could just work the triangular increase section for a pretty shawl!
This pattern works best with an ombré / colour changing yarn, meaning no ends to sew in and a seamless blend of colours across your work. I made the samples with DK yarn and a 3.5mm hook but this pattern could be created with any yarn and appropriate hook.
I hope you enjoy making this as much as I did. Please upload your creations to the project page or share with me on Instagram @the_burrow_uk
