You’ll want a 13-inch needle with a 24 or 29-inch cable length. One skein of each color (four total).

Some ideas for how to change up this pattern for a different fit or look:

-Instead of alternating colors when ribbing, you could just 1x1 rib with the main color and start ribbing directly after casting on and joining in the round. You could do this for the equivalent number of rows before the chart row. This would make the cowl stretchier. When doing the same and binding off, knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches when binding off, and do this fairly loosely.

-You could do a brioche stitch with the two colors instead of the weird/funky two-colored ribbing I tried to make work in this pattern. That way you get the stretch, but also the alternating colors! (PS, can you even DO brioche in super-bulky weight yarn? I’ve never tried, and haven’t seen it done! Challenge accepted?!)

Other suggestions for how to play with this pattern are more than welcome and I am happy to edit this and add it to this notes page.
